Musica e Dintorni a Piozzo (CN) - Birra Baladin

Anche quest'anno a PIOZZO si svolgerà il tradizionale FESTIVAL di Musica dal Mondo "Musica e Dintorni" giunto alla sua 23esima edizione.

La manifestazione si terrà, come di consuetudine, sulla piazza di Piozzo ed è organizzata dalla Associazione Culturale Baladin e dalla Pro Loco di Piozzo in collaborazione con l'Amministrazione Comunale. Il programma prevede sei concerti a partire dal martedì 21 per terminare domenica 26 luglio.

Diunna Greenleaf, the leader of Blue Mercy, is a native Texan (Houston) who has a background steeped in gospel music. Influenced by the likes of Koko Taylor, Aretha Franklin, Rosetta Thorpe, Sam Cooke, Charles Brown and her own parents Ben & Mary Ella Greenleaf (Gospel). She has developed "Diunna's style of Blues" in the same tradition as so many other great Texas blues men and women. She combines intricate patches of jazz, gospel and heartfelt soul to create a kind of blues that takes one on an emotional roller coaster ride.

Diunna and her band Blue Mercy have performed throughout the United States and Internationally. She has performed at the Lugano Blues Festival and the Bern Jazz Festival, both in Switzerland, as well as the Cahors Blues Festival in France.

For the 2009 season, Diunna is slated to do festivals in Norway, Canada, Australia, England, Italy, France, Virgin Islands and a return trip to Switzerland, as well as other performances throughout Europe, Asia and the United States.

Diunna has opened for and performed with the likes of Bob Margolin, Keb Mo, Willie “Pinetop” Perkins, Hubert Sumlin, Willie “Big Eyes” Smith, James Cotton, Carrie Bell, Big Bill Morganfield, Smoking Joe Kubek and B’Nois King, Anson Funderburge, Sam Meyers and the Rockets, Bernard Allison, Odetta, Rod Piazza and the Mighty Flyers, I.J. Gosey, Sherman Robertson, Kenny Neal, the late great Teddy “Cry Cry” Reynolds, and numerous others.

Diunna's commitment to Blues goes well beyond performing on stage. She served for three years as President of the Houston Blues Society, making history as the first woman ever elected to this position. During her presidency she used her professional guidance and grant writing skills to produce the Willie Mae Thornton Blues Festival, bringing in such talent as “The Queen Of Blues” Mrs. Koko Taylor, Mr. Bernard Allison, Texas Johnny Brown, I.J. Gosey, Diane Price, Mel Waiters, Betty Lewis, Gary Clark, Jr., Jeremy And The Hotboys, along with many others.

Diunna started the annual Houston Blues Society Founders Day and actively continued the Blues In Schools Program throughout the state. She is one of the founders of Friends of Blues Montgomery County.

Diunna has once again been nominated for the "Traditional Blues Female Artist of the Year" at the 2009 Blues Music Awards to be held in Memphis on May 7th. Diunna's most recent achievement was her win for "Best New Artist Debut" at the 2008 Blues Music Awards in Tunica, MS. She was also nominated for "Traditional Blues Female Artist of the Year."

B.R. Stylers is an Italian reggae dub band founded in 2000.
Their first debut was at Rototom Reggae Sunsplash in summer 2001. They also participated in the compilation Rototom Sunsplash Vol. 1 - Ital Reggae with the song Don't Sleep. B.R. Stylers played at festivals and clubs in Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Germany and Poland, sharing the stage with artists like Zion Train, Revolutionary Dub Warriors, Jah Free, Mad Professor, Lee "Scratch" Perry, Horace Andy, Africa Unite and Adrian Sherwood
In December 2002 they released their first album Dub Resonance on Slovenian independent label Vinylmania Records.
In 2003 the song One island dub was remixed by London based dub combo Alpha & Omega and released on their Spirit of The Ancients record.
In 2005 they released Dubbing From The Earth, after the EP Over This Place (summer 2004), recorded, written and arranged by B.R. Stylers at Dub Alchemy studio in Pordenone and mixed by Madaski in Turin. The album features Jah Free, Prince Alla, Vibronics and Dubital.
In 2006 Paolo Baldini officially joined the band Africa Unite as a producer and bassist. The album Controlli features Michela Grena's voice in the song Watch Out. B.R. Stylers performed as an opening band for the Controlli Tour. In winter 2008 the band started production for the new album out in April 2009 on Alambic Conspiracy label.

Chris Cain's jazz-tinged, blues soaked guitar and deep, warm vocals have the maturity and authenticity of bluesmen many years his senior. His expressive style is the result of a lifetime of study and the relentless pursuit of music mastery. His passion and intensity are a blend of his mother's Greek ancestry and his father's soulful black heritage.

Cain was raised on stories of his father's childhood upbringing on Memphis' Historic Beale Street and attended his first B.B King concert at the tender age of three. Blues music played continuously on the home stereo and family outings were often trips to concerts. Cain recalls, "I remember when I was a kid, my Dad would be mowing the lawn with the stereo blasting Muddy Waters. When I look back, that was pretty cool! There was always music playing at our house, Ray Charles, B.B. King, Freddie King, Albert King, all the greats."

At the age of eight, Cain taught himself to play guitar and began playing professionally before he was eighteen. Chris studied music at San Jose City College, and was soon teaching jazz improvisation on campus. Over the next twenty years, Cain would also master piano, bass guitar, clarinet, alto and tenor saxophone. The combination of his blues upbringing and his jazz studies melded to form the searing guitar style that sets Chris Cain apart and has moved him to the top ranks of the blues music scene.

Cain's debut recording, Late Night City Blues (Blue Rock'it Records-1987) garnered four W.C. Handy Blues Award nominations, including Guitarist of the Year." Dan Forte of Guitar Player wrote, "An impressive debut album by a top notch guitarist." Cain's next two releases; "Cuttin Loose" (Blind Pig Records-1990) and "Can't Buy a Break" (Blind Pig Records-1992) collected a long list of awards and accolades. In August of 1995 Blind Pig released "Somewhere Along the Way" his 4th compilation of his unique brand of original music sophisticated blues, funk, jazz and gospel.

In 2003 Patrick Ford produced Chris's latest CD, "Hall Of Shame" (Blue Rock'it Records-2003). "...this is now the sixth Chris Cain solo release I have produced, not to mention his work with me on projects like the Ford Blues Bands' "In Memory Of Michael Bloomfield" CD, and I continue to be in awe of his incredible talent. As a guitarist/singer, Chris has been praised by mentors like Albert King and peers like Robben Ford."

Larry Nager (syndicated Scripts-Howard music critic) writes, "Nowadays most young blues players are Strat-wielding Stevie Ray Vaughan-a-bes. Not Chris Cain. With a voice that recalls B.B. King and a thick toned Gibson guitar sound reminiscent of Albert King, Cain is forging a unique style. With his own highly personalized songwriting, "Hall Of Shame" is a giant step in the development of one of the most compelling young bluesmen on today's scene."

Through his guitar mastery and remarkable songwriting ability, Chris Cain has established himself as a musical force to be reckoned with. And as San Jose Mercury News music reviewer John Orr writes, "more than anyone else, anywhere, Chris Cain represents the future of the blues."

Calipson è il proseguimento naturale del progetto Tribà, nato alla fine degli anni '80 come uno dei primi esempi nazionali di band multietnica. Dopo aver esplorato il territorio musicale dell'Africa Nord-occidentale, i Tribà si sono spostati verso sonorità caraibiche, facendo del “crossover”, ovvero la fusione tra le esperienze musicali occidentali e quelle dei paesi a sud del mondo, una delle caratteristiche peculiari del gruppo.

I Tribà hanno licenziato 3 album: Distanze, Camminando, Ritmo Criminal (Target-Sony). Quest'ultimo, grazie ai singoli “Mama insegnami a ballar” e “Io sono il re”, ha raggiunto le classifiche di vendita nazionali e quelle di gradimento di alcuni paesi europei.
Diverse sono state le apparizioni televisive nei maggiori show nazionali, per citarne alcune, Domenica In (Rai 1), Buona Domenica (Canale 5), Miss Italia (Rai 1), Gli Oscar del Calcio (Italia 1), e nelle migliori trasmissioni radiofoniche nazionali, Dj Time e Tropical Pizza (Radio Dj), Caterpillar (Radio Rai 1) e tante altre.
L'attività live è sempre stata il vero punto di forza della band, che l’ha vista partecipare in diversi festival nazionali e internazionali, tra i quali: Sanremo Estate, Tora Tora, Arezzo Wave, Barcolana di Trieste, Pellerossa e Chicobum di Torino, Rafanans di Rovereto, Festival Europeo della Musica in piazza Duomo a Milano per RTL e altri ancora.

A metà del 2008 Vito Miccolis, fondatore dei Tribà insieme a Juan Carlos Calderin, Enzo Mesiti, Janier Isusi e Tony Velardi fondano i Calipson per dare continuità al progetto iniziale, arricchendo l'inconfondibile sound dei Tribà con le sonorità del calypso.
Al repertorio originale della band sono affiancate delle songs tradizionali ricercate all’interno del patrimonio musicale di Trinidad, Cuba, Jamaica e rielaborate attraverso le peculiarità musicali dei Calipson. La formazione vede alla voce e alla tromba il cubano Janier Isusi “el Susundungu”, alle tastiere Tony “Record” Velardi, al basso Enzo “Forever” Mesiti, alle percussioni il cubano Caldero e Vito “el Puro” Miccolis, alla chitarra Carmine “Nucho” Nobile.

Nell’estate 2008 i Calipson sono la resident band della manifestazione Torino World Music Meeting 2008 organizzata dall’Associazione Culturale Musica90. Nel corso delle serate la band ha accompagnato ospiti illustri quali Bunna fondatore degli Africa Unite, Manali, Sirianni, Toti Canzonieri, spaziando dal reggae al flamenco. L’inizio del 2009 è caratterizzato da moltissime apparizioni live, ultima delle quali la rassegna HISPANICA, STORIA E LETTERATURA TRA IVREA E SPAGNA organizzata dal Comune di Ivrea con il Patrocinio della Regione Piemonte.

Loonaloop are a live Australian electro dance band, who have been active on the international festival circuit since early 2003. The band has performed at festivals and clubs across the globe, boasting performances at some of the world’s finest events such as Glastonbury (UK), Beach Bop (NL), Dance Valley (NL), Planet Roxy (CZ), Big Day Out (AUS), as well as many cultural festivals and dance party’s. Best described as a live organic dance band, Loonaloop’s music is an excursion into the various styles and genres of electronic music that are current in the modern dance scene, drawing on influences ranging from drum and bass, trance, house and electronica. The five piece line up is well renowned for their intoxicating high energy performance and their ability to take the audience on an uplifting musical journey. Loonaloop’s distinctive sound is driven by a combination of organic instruments (didgeridoo, violin, tabla, Perc) with modern techniques, programming via computers etc. The live show includes drums, bass, vocals, Violin, Didgeridoo and keys to create a full, live sound. Loonaloop formed in 2003. Since completing their début album, Cleared 4 Take Off, they have toured in Australia, Europe and the UK consistently since! 2005 saw the band complete their second album, “Images of Flying” and then perform internationally, building upon their loyal audience that continues to grow and support them as their popularity increases. Among Loonaloop’s main achievements in 2005, was a spot on the main dance stage at Glastonbury Festival (UK) as well as playing alongside Dreadzone and Kosheen at Planet Love Festival in Czech Republic. The band has also headlined numerous festivals across Europe including The Big Green Gathering (UK), Blijfestijn (NL), Global Beat (PL) and The Gnome Music Fayre on the Isle of Wight (UK). Loonaloop are currently working on their third album and also are putting together a remix album for the DJ market, and have various producers and remix artists working with them on the project. This includes the likes of Kraak and Smaak (NL), Cabbage Crew in Leeds (UK), DJ Kareem (NL), Oculus (AUS).

domenica 26 - MIRO'

Julia Palmer incontra Roddie Harris al Bunjies Folk Cellar di Soho sul finire degli anni Ottanta e lascia le Dinner Ladies per unirsi ai Miro, la band psycho-folk di Roddie. Per sette anni il gruppo si fa conoscere tra gli esponenti di punta della nuova scena acustica londinese, con serate regolari al club The Troubadour in Earls Court. I Miro si esibiscono anche in concerti speciali all’ICA, al Bloomsbury Theatre, al Town and Country Club, effettuano tour in Inghilterra e Italia, registrando tre album (più un singolo, un EP e un video e partecipazioni a varie compilation) per la propria etichetta Secret Heart Records. I Miro diventano ben presto, e lo sono tuttora, una band di culto in Italia, nonostante la loro ultima performance al Bloom di Mezzago (in provincia di Milano) risalga al 22 dicembre del 1994.

Nel 2009 i due si rimettono insieme per una serie di concerti con l’intento di lanciare il nuovo sito retrospettivo dei Miro.
